The Dream
Deep in the dark depths of the Truth's headquarters (a supposedly haunted crypt on the outskirts of a quiet, superstitious village), a memorial was being held. Candles were circled around a memorial stone with Wergon's name inscribed on it. There was a small crowd gathered in the chamber, downcast faces and mournful eyes, all encircling the memorial stone. Most people gathered here were frequent readers of the Truth, family, friends, and writers. Wergon's parents attended.
Arben stepped forward. It was time to begin; the crowd fell silent.
"It is with deepest sorrow that we are gathered here tonight," She began, dark eyes flitting around the silent tomb. "And it is with deepest sorrow that I say that Wergon Dastenr, beloved friend, devoted worker, and leader of the Daily Truth, is no longer among us. He may have already reached the end of his journey; I pray that the meadows are cool, welcoming, and that he finds ultimate peace." This was the hardest part of saying goodbye for her. Arben knew that she'd never see her closest friend again, even if he did still live. The Red Guard returned none alive. Tears sprang to her eyes, giving the room an unreal, watery quality. She continued, despite the tears that wet her face and saturated her voice.
"Wergon started something magnificent, something daring, something true. Even though he is no longer here, I believe he would be proud to have us finish what he started. I propose that the Truth accept people as a part of a secret society, to reclaim our country!" The last sentence was rewarded with soft cheers of approval, an action that caused a great fire of hope to rise in her heart. Arben know that Wergon would have been so proud.
